The here published documents from the Archive of the Foreign Policy of the Russian Empire (Moscow) refer to one of attempts by British Old Catholics to enter into church communication with the Orthodox. A long and complicated process of elucidating the possibility of entering of European Old Catholics the Eucharistic communion with the Russian Orthodox Church by the end of the first decade of the 20th century has been suspended. Soon the question of union with the Orthodox was raised by the head of the self-proclaimed Old Catholic Church of England. That time the union was supposed to be with the Patriarchate of Antioch, and the matter was processed indirectly – through the Metropolitan of Beirut. Presumably, the recommendations of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church played a decisive role in suppressing these dubious attempts.
